Description

This simplified native seed mix is an excellent choice for urban and suburban landscapes, offering a manageable, low-growing planting with strong seasonal color and ecological value. Designed with shorter-statured native grasses and early-blooming annual wildflowers, the mix creates an attractive native display while remaining practical for maintained landscape settings.

The planting begins with the bright pink blooms of Rosy Plectritis in April and early May, followed closely by the deep blue flowers of Large-flowered Collinsia in mid-May. Together, these species provide a vibrant succession of spring color and important early-season resources for pollinators.

Blooming from April through late June, this mix can be mowed later in the season if desired, making it well-suited for parks, pathways, residential landscapes, and other managed spaces. However, allowing portions of the planting to remain standing longer into the season can significantly increase habitat value by providing food sources, nesting areas, and protective cover for pollinators, birds, and other beneficial wildlife.

For best ecological results, consider rotational mowing practices where only portions of the site are cut each year, preserving refuges for the many species that rely on native habitat throughout the growing season.
