This is a slow-growing rhizomatous perennial found in very wet prairie habitats and ditches forming clumps of stems 20 to 60 centimeters tall. It has flat iris-like leaves and flowers in an array of many rounded clusters. It works great in rain gardens and bioswales 2-3 ft.
