Description

This proven native seed mix was originally developed in the early 2000s for a Bureau of Land Management (BLM) restoration project focused on creating open, pollinator-friendly habitat following slash pile burns. Designed specifically for post-burn conditions, this mix has consistently demonstrated exceptional long-term establishment and resilience, with thriving wildflower displays persisting years after sowing.

Burn pile sites provide an ideal environment for native seed establishment, acting as a “blank slate” with minimal weed competition after burning. Even in the hottest central burn zones, hardy native species such as Yarrow, Woodland Phacelia, and Roemer’s Fescue establish successfully and contribute to rapid habitat recovery.

This mix is one of the most effective and reliable ways to establish native prairie species on disturbed sites. Most species included are non-dormant or require only a short cold-moist stratification period, making the blend especially well-suited for winter sowing shortly after burn piles have cooled.
